1. Who we are
Cotuz is an educational adventure game for kids ages 6–13. This site is operated by the Cotuz team. Reach us at privacy@cotuz.com for any privacy question.
2. Information we collect
From the parent account:
- Email address (sign-in + recovery).
- Display name (optional).
From each kid profile:
- Nickname, age, avatar choice.
- Gameplay progress: answers, level completion, mastery scores, items earned.
We do not knowingly collect real-name, address, phone number, or location data from kids.
3. How we use it
- Save progress so the kid can resume where they left off.
- Adapt question difficulty per the 7 sub-skill mastery model.
- Improve the product (aggregated, anonymous stats).
- Reply to support requests + send important account emails.
4. Page visits
We count page visits with our own simple tool, stored in our own database. For each page that opens we record:
- the page address, including anything after the "?" in the link (for example which video or campaign link brought you);
- the page you came from, if your browser shares it;
- a random visit ID that lives only in that browser tab and is deleted when you close the tab;
- the time;
- if a kid is signed in, which kid profile is playing, so progress reports work.
Worksheet PDF downloads are counted the same way (file address, the page you came from, the time). We don't record IP addresses or browser fingerprints for this, and we use no third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel).
5. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with advertisers, brokers, or third parties for marketing.
We use a few service providers to run Cotuz: our web server (Vultr), our database and file storage (Supabase, Singapore region), email delivery (Resend), and email forwarding for messages sent to our @cotuz.com addresses (Namecheap). They handle data only to provide their service to us.
When a parent makes a worksheet with "Create your own", only the skill and difficulty they choose are used to draft questions with an AI service. No names, emails or kid details are sent. More in How we use AI.
6. Your rights
Parents have the right to: access data we hold on the account, correct it, export it, or delete the account and every kid profile attached. Email privacy@cotuz.com and we will respond within 30 days.
7. Cookies + local storage
We only use our own cookies and browser storage, for things the site needs: the sign-in cookie, a short-lived cookie if the worksheet-email age check says the sign-up is for under-18s, and browser storage for settings and game progress (like sound on/off or a tutorial already seen) plus the per-tab visit ID above. Our pages set no third-party or tracking cookies. Worksheet preview images are served from our own site too.
Videos play in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and we serve YouTube's small player loader from our own site, so opening a video page sets no YouTube cookies. The player and thumbnails still load from YouTube's and Google's servers, which see your IP address as with any website, and once your kid presses play, YouTube may process more data under Google's own privacy policy.
8. Children's privacy (COPPA / similar)
Accounts are parent-managed. Kids cannot create accounts on their own. If you believe a child has signed up without parental consent, email privacy@cotuz.com and we will delete the profile immediately.
Worksheet emails (for parents and teachers)
If you sign up for worksheet emails we keep only your email address and when you confirmed it. We use it only to send new free worksheets, never sell or share it, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link; when you unsubscribe we delete your address. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days. Sign-up is for adults (parents and teachers) only: we ask for your birth year just to check that, and we never store it. We never ask kids for an email.
9. Changes to this notice
We'll update the "Last updated" date and notify account owners by email for any material change.
