Living vs Non-living

Γ—

Living things

A living thing grows, eats, breathes, and needs water. Animals are alive. Plants are alive too β€” they grow toward the sun and drink water through their roots.

Non-living things

A non-living thing does not grow or need food. A rock is not alive β€” it does not eat. A toy car is not alive β€” it only moves when you push it.

How to tell?

Ask: Does it grow? Does it need food or water? Can it breathe? If the answer is YES, it is probably alive. If NO, it is non-living.
