Each letter has a sound
When we say the letter B, we make a "buh" sound. When we say the letter S, we make a "sss" sound like a snake.
Sounds at the beginning of words
Listen to "cat". It starts with a "kuh" sound. That is the letter C! Many words start with the same sound: cat, cup, car all begin with "kuh".
Blending sounds = reading
Put sounds together to make a word. C-A-T → "kuh-ah-tuh" → cat! That is how reading works — one sound at a time.
