A pair that fits the same way
An analogy lines up TWO pairs of things and says they're connected in the same way. The first pair is the example — it teaches you the rule. The second pair is where you apply that rule.
Reading them out loud helps. "Cat is to kitten AS dog is to puppy" — say it like a sentence. The word "AS" is the bridge: whatever rule was true on the left needs to be true on the right.
Analogies show up everywhere — vocabulary tests, riddles, poetry, even programming. They train your brain to spot the deep pattern instead of the surface words.
